5 reasons we rescue great quality wine
Surplus wine. Serious quality. Rescued before it disappears. Wonky wine isn’t wonky because something went wrong.
A luxury hotel changes its wine list. The wine still needs somewhere to go.
Fine dining restaurants and luxury hotels change their lists, or close. The bottles they had lined up have nowhere to go. We find them.
Importers order big. Sales don’t always keep up.
Importers sometimes over-commit on minimum orders from world-class producers. When that happens, we step in.
Wine trends change in a year. Vineyards take decades to catch up.
Styles go in and out of fashion fast, but vines can’t change direction overnight. There’s always good wine caught on the wrong side of a trend.
A new vintage needs room, even when the last one is still brilliant.
Producers sometimes make room for the new vintage while the previous one is still outstanding. The older stock has to move, so we step in.
Trade wars and cancelled orders can strand a whole shipment.
A tariff, a dispute, a cancelled trade deal. Whole shipments get stranded, and thousands of bottles end up at risk of being wasted.
Not everything gets rescued. Only wine that’s top notch and great value.
The wine is exactly as the winemaker intended. It just needed somewhere to go before it ended up as waste. That’s where we come in, and Emma only rescues what she believes is seriously good.
- Every bottle is tasted and approved by Emma, our MW student buyer.
- Not a second choice. The same wine, with a different story.
- Every bottle comes with a card saying where it came from and why it ended up with us.
Four cases. Six bottles each.
Curated each month from the best surplus stock we’ve rescued. New wines every month, so you’ll likely never get the same bottle twice.
We didn’t set out to be wine people.
Laurence has a couple of restaurants. Suppliers kept showing up with brilliant bottles at prices that made no sense. When we started asking why, we found an industry quietly wasting hundreds of thousands of bottles every year. So we did what we always do.

What people ask before their first case
Why is the wine surplus? Is something wrong with it?
Nothing at all. Surplus wine is about timing, not quality. Restaurants and luxury hotels change their wine lists. Trade wars and global politics strand shipments. Trends shift faster than vineyards can change direction. New vintages need room, so older stock has to move. The wine is exactly as the winemaker intended. It just needed somewhere to go.
Where do you source the wine from?
We work directly with importers, producers and hospitality groups to find wine that would otherwise be wasted. A lot of what ends up in your case has come off the lists of top notch restaurants and luxury hotels. Same wine, different story behind how it got to you.
Will the wines change each time?
Yes, every time. We curate each case from the best surplus stock we’ve rescued that month. It’s unlikely you’ll get any of the bottles from this batch again.
Can I choose the individual wines in my case?
Not yet. The whole point is the curation and the rescue. But you can choose the style: red, white, mixed or lucky dip. And if you’re a subscriber, you’ll always get first pick of whatever we’ve managed to rescue.
How does the subscription work?
You choose how often we send a case, and every delivery ships free. There’s no minimum commitment. Skip, reschedule or cancel whenever you want. No awkward phone calls, no catch.
When will it arrive?
Orders are dispatched in 1-2 working days. We’ll confirm your delivery window at checkout.
Is there a minimum order for free shipping?
Free shipping when you have two or more items in your basket. A second case, or any other Wonky product, counts. Subscribers ship free too. Otherwise it’s £7.50.
What if I don’t like one of the wines?
We offer a 30 day happiness guarantee. If a bottle isn’t right, drop us a message and we’ll sort it. No awkward questions.
